Chapter 22

Johnny sat down on the boat and waited for Ivy’s orgasm to subside. Her tail was going crazy, rocking the boat and splashing lakewater all over him.

“W-wow,” Ivy finally managed to pant. “That was dirty.”

“Thanks,” Johnny said. “I don’t know what came over me. I’m usually a very well-behaved guy. Now, about that question I—”

Before Johnny could finish, Ivy dove off the boat and disappeared under the water. She was gone for a long time, and Johnny was beginning to suspect she had run away when Ivy suddenly broke the surface, arcing through the air and landing on the boat.

“Sorry,” she said. “I was redoing my makeup.”

“I thought you weren’t coming back.”

“Unlike some people, I actually keep my word.”

Johnny winced.

“So what is it?” Ivy asked, suddenly businesslike now that “filthy time” was over. “What did you want to ask me?”

Johnny cleared his throat.

“Have there been any suspicious visitors to Cheddar’s house recently? Within the past few weeks?”

“You, for one.”

“Other than me.”

Ivy scratched her cheek with a green fingernail. “You know, the sound of oars in the water is so loud that I can’t get a single wink of sleep until they stop. So I remember most visitors. And the mouse girl—Cheeser was it?”

“Cheddar.”

“Right. Cheddar gets so few visitors I remember them all, anyway.”

“And sleep with all of them?”

“Sometimes …” Ivy paused to consider. “Now I remember. This last guy to visit Cheddar—he was kind of an asshole.”

“An asshole?”

“Mhm. Normally when I pop out of the water and say, ‘Rahhh!’ people at least stop for me, but this guy ignored me and went right on rowing!”

“When was this?”

Ivy paused to think.

“Two weeks ago? Give or take a few days.”

Bingo. The timing fit with Brie’s description.

“Yes,” Ivy was saying, “it’s coming back to me now. I was pissed off that this guy ignored me. At first I tried to sink his boat, but there was something creepy about him … So I decided to keep my distance and spy on him. And that’s when I saw him go up to Cheeser’s house.”

“Cheddar.”

“Right. When he went up to Cheddar’s house … well, this guy behaved differently from the others.”

“Differently how?”

“Well, for one thing, he didn’t knock. He just opened the door and strolled right in. Also, most visitors stay for at least a quarter-hour, this guy was in and out in a matter of minutes … And then there was how he left …”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, this guy left without Cheddar. Most guests come to use her Door, right? So usually they’ll leave accompanied by the Door Mouse on the boat. But this guy left alone …”

“Is that so strange? Cheddar turns some people down, right? Refuses to let them use her Door?”

“Not very often, in my experience.”

Johnny rubbed his chin. Was this a clue? Or a red herring? It was hard to tell.

“He went that way,” Ivy said, pointing a finger to the north. “In case you were wondering.”

“Thanks Ivy. Just one more thing.”

“What?” Ivy winked at him. “What to have another quickie?”

“No.
